For a ~$1 billion software company the rate of acquisitions is fairly typical - it's just that the ECM software sector has finally had players achieve this size and therefore acquisition rate. The Obtree product was called Obtree C4 (Now Livelink WCM Presention Server Type 1 - even more catchy) IXOS was a SAP integration specialist and Obtree C4 has a very nice SAP plugin (hence the merger) However it seems the plan was always to sell on to Open Text (Boo!)
